Pops of neon

Top of the colour hit parade, cheerful bursts of neon bring a playful character to your Christmas setting.

Mixing lumo colours into your Christmas décor scheme is easier than you think. Here are some of our top ways to nail this trend:

1 Make your own temporary neon table settings by taping and spray-painting paper plates and disposable cutlery. You could also punch holes or shapes out of bright paper to sprinkle over the table.

2 Look out for neon ornaments in the Christmas aisles, or make some yourself by spray-painting plain baubles and decorations with your favourite colour.

3 Your stationery cupboard is probably filled with great neon bits – think highlighters! Create tablecloths by decorating large sheets of white paper with with neon green, pink, yellow and orange dots.

4 Spray-paint pine cones in fluorescent colours or, for a more tropical vibe, try pineapples! Just remember not to eat them.

5 Buy a few lengths of different neon ribbons and tie them to the backs of chairs around the Christmas table.

6 Nature loves brights too: tulips, zinnias and chrysanthemums displayed in vases or clear jars will add a fresh, natural neon touch.

7 Make giant pom-poms out of neon wool, or create small ones to string into a festive garland. Easy, pretty and affordable!
